Summary
During the five days of instruction, most students complete 4 - 5 knives. Each student will make 1 full tang and 1 hidden tang knife from each steel, (440-C and L-6 steels), for a total of 4 knives. Time permitting, and if the student wants additional instruction, the class may be extended for an additional fee.

  • Finding the method of profiling blanks from the raw material that best suites your needs.
    Bandsawing, plasma cutting, abrasive cutting, and flame cutting.
  • How to make brass guards, bolsters, and butt caps.
  • Silver soldering.
  • Flat grinding and slack belt grinding the bevel on knives.
  • How to machine the tang portion on full tang knives.
  • Attaching the guards and butt caps.
  • Heat treating of L-6 and 440-C stainless steel.
  • Satin or brushed finishing vs mirror polished.
  • Choosing handle materials.
  • Working with exotic woods, antler, bone and man made handle materials.
  • How to work with space age epoxy adhesives.
  • Shaping handles on full tang knives.
  • Various methods used to mark logos, names, and serial numbers on knives.
  • Sheaths. Do I make my own or have them made by a professional?
